The Importance Of Creating A Morning Routine That Works For You

How You Start Your Mornings Set The Tone Of Your Day

It’s officially October, which means it’s the last quarter of the year. I can’t believe how close we are to the end of the year. Fourth quarter is honestly my favorite quarter, because I think it’s the most important one. If you didn’t know, what you do in the fourth quarter, determines how strong your next year will start. That means, the actions, habits, and behaviors you cultivate in these last three months, will directly impact how your 2025 starts and ultimately ends. If you want different in 2025, the change must start now. During the fast and detox, I created a new morning routine that I’ve been able to stick to. I’m the type of person that thrives when I have structure and routines. Any time I wake up and have to jump straight into my day, I feel all over the place. Having time in the morning for myself is the best feeling. Creating and consistently following my morning routine has been a game changer.

What Is A Morning Routine?

A morning routine is a set of habits and motions that you do naturally or intentionally when you wake up. Naturally, (I hope) you brush your teeth every morning, you don’t have to think about it, you just do it. Something intentionally could be working out, it might not be something you do naturally, but you intentionally prioritize it every morning. I have a morning routine Monday-Sunday, not just weekdays. It isn’t always tied to a specific time, I have a solid routine that can flow no matter when I wake up. I “sleep in” on weekends, so even though I’m not up at 6:30am, I still prioritize my routine. Whether you wake up at 7am or noon, you need to have a morning routine.

Why Is A Morning Routine Important?

CNBC said, “There are science-backed benefits of having a morning routine: Past research has shown that a consistent morning routine can reduce stress, boost your energy levels and improve your productivity at work.” Morning routines help you set your tone for the day. I used to be the person who would sleep in as late as I could, wake up and go straight to work. I would find myself trying to catch up throughout the day. Having a morning routine helps you start your morning proactive rather than reactive. Before I had a good morning routine, I would be disorganized and overwhelmed. Luckily, I’ve been in position to not need an alarm, so I would wake up and go with the flow. The problem is, the flow was not helping me be successful at all.

How Having A Good Morning Routine Changed My Life?

Having a consistent morning routine was a struggle for me. Back during Covid, I had one, but once I was back working, it was over. For the last year, I would start morning routines, but fall off after a week or so. During the fast, I made it a priority to figure out how to create a routine that I could stick to. Some of the credit for my morning routine has to go to my new puppy, Saint, there’s certain things I have to do for him, no matter how tired I am. My morning routine begins around 6:30am. I set an alarm, but find myself waking up just before the alarm, most mornings, (I want to switch that 5:30/6am.) Next, I brush my teeth and wash my face. I like to take Saint outside by latest 7am. After our morning walk, I pour a glass of water, sit either on the balcony or at my table, pray and read my word. I like to have a moment to brain dump and clear my brain from the tabs that I have open in my head. After my quiet time with God, I feed saint and get ready for the gym (I only go some mornings, some days I go in the afternoon.) When I come back from the gym, I shower and wash my face. Then I head to the kitchen to make my coffee and review my to-do list from the night before. I eat a quick breakfast while either listening to a podcast or reading a chapter of my book. I start working by 9/9:30am. Everything in my routine is consistent, besides the gym, no matter what time I wake up, or the day of the week. Even on vacation, I follow this same routine. I can see a change in every area of my life from having this routine; I’m more productive, I have more energy and I’m able to maximize my day. Those rare days that I’m unable to follow my morning my routine, I can tell a difference.

How To Create A Morning Routine That’ll Work For You

I remember talking to someone and she told me, ”Whether you know it or not, you naturally have a morning routine. It’s the rhythm your body follows when you wake up.” She then asked me to walk her thru my typical mornings. I told her that I would wake up and go with the flow. She responded by saying, “What’s the typical flow?” I said I don’t know, I’d check my phone, read my devotional, shower, make coffee, and leave the house. After saying that out loud, I learned that my morning routine was working against me, it was then that I decided to make the change. The key to having a morning routine that works for you, is to decide what’s most important. What things make you feel fulfilled? The reason morning routines weren’t working for me is because I was trying to follow someone else’s routine. It’s nothing wrong with pulling pieces of people you admire routine into your own, but it has to be a priority for you. If you aren’t spiritual, prayer/devotional time would be hard for you to incorporate, because it’s not a priority. For years, I would try to incorporate morning 30 minute journaling into my routine, I would be consistent for a week or two and then fall off. I would beat myself up for dropping the ball, but the reality is, that’s not a priority for me. That doesn’t mean I never journal or it isn’t a healthy habit to have, but it isn’t a priority for ME, every morning. Start by writing down what is most important for you. Once you decide what’s most important, you can come up with how much time it’ll take you and reverse engineer. I like to have at least two hours to myself before starting any work, that’s why 6:30 works perfect for me. Whatever time, you start work, or your day, decide how much time you need for yourself. Giving myself that 2-2.5 hours, allows me to have a slow morning and ease myself into my day, because that’s a priority for me. Maybe you only need an hour, wake up that hour earlier. Yes, you will be sacrificing sleep, but think about who you’ll become if you give yourself that time in the morning. Write out your ideal morning routine and try doing it. Once you start doing it, you can tweak it as necessary.

Morning routines are game changers. They help you kickstart your day. They only work, when you make one that’s tailored to what’s important to you. Heres the secret, they may change. My morning routine in this season will look completely different once Saint is no longer a puppy. When we get into winter, it may change too. Be fluid with your routines. You have to be flexible and continue to tailor your routine to fit your needs. If you miss a day, it’s ok, you can pick it back up the next one. Whether you consider yourself to be a morning person, it’s key to have a solid morning routine. The key to having a solid morning routine is having a good night time routine, but that’s a story for another day.

Over on Instagram I shared a Reel video of how my mornings look. I mentioned the two items that have helped boost my energy. When I started waking up earlier, my body would crash around 1pm/2pm, not anymore. I started adding a scoop of the For Wellness Good Stuff Performance Pack into my coffee, and it’s improved my focus. I also love how the cinnamon flavor mixed into my sweet Italian coffee is so good, (there’s other flavors.) Most people get energy when they workout, I’m no exception. However, the energy I receive from working out would fizzle out after about two hours later. I started taking the For Wellness Recovery Vitamins, and they have benefited me so much. Not only do they improve my focus, they restore my energy and help with my soreness. I hate how sore I would feel after working out, these vitamins have minimized it. I love that both these products are all natural. Click here to shop both these products and more, use my code DYMOND70782 for money off.
