Nothing More Powerful Than A Brown Girl In With Some Red Lipstick

Red lipsticks are such a statement. They're bold and feminine, yet still powerful. Lipstick colors have bigger symbols than you think. Some women of color feel like they can't wear red lips and I'm here to tell you, THAT'S A LIE! I don't know who started the lie that red lipstick is unflattering and loud on brown women, but it needs to end. Red lipsticks come in all shades, so no matter what undertones you have, there is one out there for you. Celebrities like Gabrielle Union, Tyra Banks, Brandy, Rihanna, Nia Long and more, have been seen rocking red lips on carpets and at events. When a woman wears a red lip, it means she is powerful and empowered. I had to go to a family funeral last week, I felt the power of red lipstick. It gave me the strength I didn't know I needed. There's so many great red lipsticks out there. I have tried quite a few myself. I wanted to share just a few of my favorites. Here's five of my favorite red lipsticks for black and brown woman. They aren't in any particular order.
 

1.MAC: RUBY WOO


This has been out for years. I remember wearing this color to my junior high school homecoming dance. The shade first released back in 1999, and has now become one of their most iconic colors. It's a vibrant color that goes on creamy and dries down matte. It's described as a cool toned medium dark blue/red shade. This lipstick is flattering to almost every shade!



2. FENTY BEAUTY STUNNA LIP PAINT: UNCENSORED


Fenty Beauty just doesn't miss. This liquid lipstick is one of my all time favorites. It's such a universal shade of red. It's a soft matte color that has little transfer when worn. This lipstick is so pigmented and can be worn all day. I've even worn this color as a lip liner. This shade was released back in 2017, and has been a fan favorite.



3. THE LIP BAR: BAWSE LADY


This isn't my first time talking about this brand. If you remember, back on National Lipstick Day, I shared five of my favorite colors from The Lip Bar. I didn't include this one, because it's one of their top sellers, so it was harder for me to get my hands on it. It's such a rich red color. When you apply this lipstick, it will last you all day, without smudging. The price is super affordable and it can be purchased at Walmart and Target.



4. KYLIE COSMETICS: RED VELVET LIP KIT


Many people have said negative things about Kylie Cosmetics, but I am a fan of her lip kits. I own four of them and love the pigments. The lip kit comes with the liquid lipstick and lip liner. I personally match my lipsticks with darker liners, so I wear them separately, but I still love it. I get the most compliments with this bright red lipstick. It's described as a vivid warm red. The formula is super creamy and doesn't dry down.



5. ROUGE DIOR: 999 SATIN RED


This is the most hydrating red lipstick I own. It stays put and can be worn for a long period of time. This shade has coral undertones, which make it perfect for any skin complexion. I made this my special occasion red. Dior is such a luxury brand, when I wear it, I feel fancy. It's a little pricey but it's also refillable, which is why if you can splurge, it's nice to have.
