Before you can say hello, you have to say goodbye. Before we enter into the new season, let’s reflect on the old. This was a very interesting summer. I had so many incredible moments with my family and friends. I also learned a lot about myself this summer; some good and bad. I even overcame a lot of trials this summer. If you watch tv, or went into any major store, you’d see all the fall decor is front and center. Fall is knocking on the door, even though, I live in Atlanta, and it’s still 90 degrees. Technically, summer doesn’t end until the end of September. However, college students are back on campus, teachers are back to work, and students are back in their classrooms. Many people define summer ending after Labor Day, even though the calendar says it doesn’t end until September 22nd. No matter when you think summer ends, a new season is on the horizon. Every year, for the last seven years, we come together for our End Of Summer Fast and Detox. I’m personally inviting you to join us on our eighth annual one.
Starting on September 1st through September 8th, we will be preparing our hearts, minds, spirits and souls for the new season. I don’t mean just the physical season of fall, I mean this new season of life. If you’re new here and you’ve never joined us, let me give you a little back story. Back in 2017, I was a junior at Clark Atlanta University, I had just started the blog four months prior. I found myself fearful and overwhelmed with all the thoughts for the new school year. God gave me the idea to do a end of summer fast and detox which was titled Fasting For 4.0s. This is a process I’ve brought with me into adulthood, as I’ve evolved, the fast and detox has as well. For the last seven years we have came together as a community to fast pray and detox our way into what’s coming ahead. What started as a fast and detox for a new school year, became a movement that has stretched to all ages and genders. Each year, we fast for change and breakthroughs. It’s something about when two or more gathered that things shift. That doesn’t only mean physically get together. When we come together as a community, it’s a time to declare that we are prepared for what God has in store for us. This time of fasting isn’t just to get physical things from God. Whether you need clarity, to get unstuck, to renew your mind, to change your thoughts, or to break the spirit of depression off of your life; this fast is for you. Breakthrough from the same cycles! Breakthrough from past traumas! Breakthrough from shame! Breakthrough from doubt! Whatever has had a hold on you, it’s time to breakout and breakthrough.
This year, God has been calling me for a deeper relationship with Him. So this fast is not only a time to get things from God. This is a time to seek intimacy with Him. Mathew 6:33 says, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” A lot of times we live our lives out of order and are confused when we’re stuck in cycles. The correct order is seeking first God. Seeking Him first with every aspect of your life: your career, your dreams, your routines, your habits, your relationships, your will. Surrender it all to Him and seek His face. How many times do you get an idea or a revelation and you call your friend? God wants us to call Him first. He gave you the ideas and dreams that are in your heart and head, why would you not seek the maker first. So many people are searching for their purpose and what God is asking from them, but they aren’t consulting with Him to get the answer. Over the weekend I was at Mattie James Magic Experience and she said, "You can not ask a thing, what's the purpose of a thing, you have to ask the maker.'' This is our time to seek the maker of everything to learn what he has in store for us. When your device, (phone, laptop, etc.) isn't working properly, you take it back to the creator. Why is it that so many times we find ourselves going to people who did not create us to tell us our purpose? God created you with a purpose, why not spend intimate time with him to learn. This fast and detox is going to make you seek God, seek a relationship, and seek His face. During this time of praying and fasting, we won’t only be talking to God, but we are going to be removing the noise so that we can hear from him. There are so many things that are begging for our attention, God may be talking to you, and you can’t even hear him through all the other noise.
This is our eighth annual End Of Summer Fast and Detox, and I’ve been studying what the word eight means in the Bible. The number eight stands for new beginnings, and resurrection. Isaiah 43:19 says, “For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” So many times we pray and ask God to show up in our lives the same way he did in the past, when he’s trying to do something new and different. It is a new beginning for many of us, not just the new season of fall. Whether you’re in a new role with work or life, a new season of motherhood, or a new season of change; it is something new. You can’t go into new seasons with old mindset. That is why this fast and detox this year is going to prepare you in a way that you didn’t even know you needed. This is a time for resurrection of the dreams that God put inside of you that went dormant. Starting this Sunday at noon, we are going deeper. I would love for you to join, all you need to do is come up with a list of three things that you are giving up for the seven days. Three things that you can lay down and place them at the altar so that you can focus on your relationship with Christ. If you’re struggling with what to lay down, ask God to reveal them to you. What distractions have your attention in this current season? What things are you using all of your free time on? Take some time to think about that. I’m so excited to see how God will show up. Each day I’m going to share a scripture for you to marinate on, a worship song, and an activity for you to complete
If you're not a believer like me, that’s ok. I want you to join me during this time as well, because not only is it a fast, it’s also a detox. We are detoxing our mind and bodies for this new season. You can’t want different and do the same thing. If you want different you have to be different, but that starts with our minds. Your heart shapes your mind, which shapes your actions. This is the time where we are detoxing from things to prepare our bodies for different actions. Each day I will share activities with you so you can get a deeper understanding of you. It’s time to reconnect with the things that you want for yourself. The world is so noisy, we see things, being thrown at us every which way, and your wants and desires get lost. This is not only about shaping your wants and desires, it’s about shaping the person you want to be. This is the time to reconnect with yourself in a way that you don’t know. Detoxing cleanses you mind and body to be aligned with your future life. Ready to get clear on your goals and to come up with a plan to have an amazing future? Join this detox, by thinking of three time wasting things that have your attention. For seven days, we are quieting the noise of outsiders and sitting with ourself and thoughts. After the long eight months we just encountered, we need to get rid of all the things holding us back. This detox will also help jumpstart your discipline, which is essential for growth.
Whether you’re religious, or not, I hope you join me in this fast and detox. Make sure you are subscribed to the blog, (down below) because every day, starting Sunday September 1st, to Sunday September 8th, I will send you a scripture, prayer, and an activity. This fast will be challenging, but if you take it seriously, it can change the trajectory of your next season. It starts Sunday September 1st at noon and ends Sunday September 8th at noon. Are you ready? Let’s go!
